Contrary to what you might be made to believe, it is a lot easy to get an affordable rate. The two things that stand between you and getting a better rate now are the right information and a determination to use the information you get — Nothing more. Let’s look at several sure-fire ways to get more for a lot less…

1. Do your best to always drive responsibly. It’s a smart decision to NOT drive at all if you have taken alcohol(even if it’s only a sip.

Driving while drunk, even if slightly will make you pay very expensive rates if you’re lucky or be compelled to stay without auto insurance if you’re not so lucky. While alcohol-related traffic offences have very instantaneous and serious consequences, speeding tickets will as well make you pay much more if they pile up. For your safety then and cheaper rates, never break any traffic law notwithstanding how minor you think it is.

2. An outstanding credit rating will show in your favour with respect to your auto insurance rate. Folks who have poor credit pay higher premiums for all forms of insurance and that is also true for auto insurance. The plain reason for this is that there’s a general consensus among most insurance carriers that there’s a correlation between poor credit rating and high risks. For some insurance carriers it is a pattern they believe you might repeat with them in premium defaults. This perception of increased risk makes such persons get higher rates in auto insurance and other insurance policies.

3. A multi-vehicle discount is a proven and easy way to enjoy more affordable rates. It It’s advisable to insure all your cars with the same insurer unless got a better rate for a number of your vehicles with another insurance carrier. You can ensure you are choosing the best in your case by doing thorough comparison shopping. But however you look at it, a multi-vehicle discount is a great way to get lower rates.

4. Holding several policies with the same provider also draws a reasonable discount. All you need to do to become eligible for this discount is to purchase your car insurance policy from the very insurer that is providing, for example, your homeowner insurance.

However, note that you may be better off if you buy your different policies from different carriers who give you the lowest rates for each policy. Getting quotes and comparing them with what you’ll save are highly profitable steps. If you do this, you’ll be in a position to determine if switching would save you more.

5. Staying claims-free will result in a good discount. Some insurers may not offer this without some coercion.

If your agent says they don’t offer this discount let him or her know that you will switch to another insurer. With this kind of history getting a far lower rate is certainly very easy since claims-free policy holders are every insurer’s dream.

Most insurers will do all within their powers to ensure they don’t lose you and this should lead to some compromise on their part.

6. If you have collision and/or comprehensive for an old car which is not a classic, then you’re paying much more than you should. The reason for this is that insurers base your compensation on what is called the Kelly Blue Book value at any given point in time. So even if you’ve paid your premiums faithfully for years but the Kelly Blue Book value says your car is worth nothing, you’ll get nothing from your insurer and they’ll be totally covered by the law.

So stop wasting your money. Once your car becomes old, drop collision and comprehensive coverage on it. Doing this will save you much and not compromise you in any way.

7. Take out some time to visit a minimum of five insurance quotes sites that provide quotes on auto insurance policies. Doing this should take you around 25 minutes.

While you visit each site, ensure you input the same details. Doing otherwise will produce misleading quotes. When you’ve obtained your auto insurance quotes, compare them to see which serves your interest best both in price and value.
